"The Variable" - On the 100th episode milestone for the series, the time of reckoning has begun when Daniel Faraday comes clean regarding what he knows about the island, on "Lost," WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29 (9:00-10:02 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Hey All,
This week since we had a break we decided to have a bonus podcast that covers our thoughts and theories for the first half of the season and our good friend DarkUFO joined us to not only provide us with his thoughts on Season 5 so far, but also to talk about spoilers for the second half of the season!!

Since Dark provided us with some new spoilers I decided to release the spoilers portion of the podcast first. We preview Episodes 5x09 Namaste and Episode 5x10 He's Our You, talk about some of the recent spoilers including the season finale casting calls, we breakdown the most recent death poll, and Dark revealed several new little tidbits throughout the podcast.

Marshall in New Hampshire: On Lost, any scoop on Sawyer in the 1970s?

I'm hearing that he and Jin will be in that fabulously groovy decade for three whole years and that...wait for it...Jin might speak far better English now! Hooray for more Daniel Dae Kim screen time and multisyllabic words!

Isaiah in Little Rock, Ark.: On Lost, are we ever going to see Richard Alpert in a scene with Mrs. Hawking? I feel like those two are Island gods who must know each other.

When we recently spoke to Fionnula Flanagan, she told us that she hasn't had any scenes yet with Nestor Carbonell, but, "Perhaps I have in some previous existence, or in some previous materialization of Mrs. Hawking, but it hasn't come to light yet." You'll note that doesn't rule out encounters between young Ellie (if that is Mrs. Hawking in an earlier life) and Richard Alpert in the past.

Ms. Hawking had a chat with E! Online's Kristin and well it was an interesting conversation that you can read here:

Lost fans want to know: Who is Mrs. Eloise Hawking?

We know she's a mother and something of a mystic, and that her mysterious character (played by the superfine Fionnula Flanagan) has both mucked up Desmond David Hume's (Henry Ian Cusick) life and helped the Oceanic Six get back to the Island. But as Fionnula reveals to us in an exclusive interview, the full story won't be revealed until a certain episode a few weeks out...
In the meantime, if she's Daniel Faraday's (Jeremy Davies) mother, then who is Daniel's father? Could it be Charles Widmore (Alan Dale)? Says Fionnula, "Mrs. Hawking never talks about her past sexual relationships." (Say it with me: LOL.)
And what else is Mrs. Hawking? Could she be an alien? That's actually on the table, or so says Fionnula...

Having already done three episodes so far this season, Fionnula promises she will bring Mrs. Hawking back again later this season: "I'm literally waiting for the car to come pick me up because I'm going back to Hawaii to do another one." That episode, likely number 14 (of this season's 17 hours), explores Mrs. Hawking's many abilities. "I do know quite a good deal [about her now] from the episode that I'm just about to do. I know a great deal about her past and her present and her future. But I am contractually unable to tell you, or they'd have to kill me."
OK, so we can't know who she is (and she isn't telling if she's the cute little Ellie from Richard Alpert's camp in the 1950s), but can we know where she is? Does she ever go to the Island? Says Fionnula, "Oh, I do think Mrs. Hawking can come and go anywhere she pleases. I think she has that capacity. Whether she’s able to control it or not, I don’t know." Hmmm...

Some watchful Lostpedians noticed that Mrs. Hawking wears a couple of quasi-religious totems—a snake eating its tail and a Tibetan Buddhist symbol. So what is Mrs. Hawking's religion, if she has any? Is she a woman of science or a woman of faith? "[Her spiritual beliefs] are definitely not of this world and not of this planet. That's for sure!" Um...not of this planet? I suppose it was just a matter of time before the show introduced aliens!

Continues Fionnula, "I think she's got that wonderful blend of scientist and spiritual believer. When the stars are properly aligned she seems able to call upon great strength. I think she's a woman of enormous strength."

Fionnula doesn't know why Mrs. Hawking's photo appeared on the desk of the abbot of Desmond's monastery. "In fact, I was told about my photograph having appeared. A man stopped me on Bond Street in London last year. He grabbed my arm and said, 'I'm terribly sorry, but I have to know: Why was your photograph on the desk?' And I thought, this man is a lunatic."

We're all mad here, but at least we're in good company. Fionnula is famous in theatrical circles for her appearances in productions of James Joyce's works, and she thinks there's a connection between that writer's literary fever dreams and our beloved, nutty Lost. She says, "I think there's definitely some connection between Lost and Finnegans Wake—James Joyce's great magical, mythical book drawing on seven languages. Yes, I think Joyce would have enjoyed Lost, for sure."

The same local media site (Pioneer Local) that posted a little summary of the plot details for Episode 5x01 Because You Left has now also posted some nice spoilery plot details for the second episode of LOST's season 5 (Episode 5x02 The Lie).

For some these are MAJOR SPOILERS

1) Those left on the island are having trouble starting fires, but they soon get all the fire they need when they're attacked by flaming arrows. This sends everyone scurrying into the jungle. Just when it seemed like there couldn't possibly be any other others...

2) The Oceanic 6 continue to be linked just as many of the passengers' lives were intertwined -- without them knowing it -- before the crash. Kate (Evangeline Lilly) and Hurley (Jorge Garcia) miss each other by minutes after visiting the same gas station. The Hurley and Sayid (Naveen Andrews) show continues with them now as fugitives (although Sayid spends most of that time unconscious) while Hurley spends most of it in a fantastic, and very yellow, T-shirt.

3) Sun (Yunjin Kim) knows a little something about a decision Kate made when they got off the island.

4) Nose bleeds, headaches and memory loss are back on the island -- at least for one character.

5) Hurley decides to follow some advice from Sayid and ends up making it harder to get the Oceanic 6 gang back together.

6) An omniscient and creepy shopkeeper from Season 3 returns. (I assume this is in reference to Ms. Hawking)

Hey All,
This week we also found out that we will be seeing more of the mysterious Ms. Hawking. Yup Desmond's time traveling "guide" is set to appear in at least two episodes this season.

Fionnula Flanagan who plays Ms. Hawking appeared on a radio show in Ireland last week and during the interview she confirmed that she will be returning to Hawaii to film some new scenes.

Earlier today EW's Ausiello reported that Ms. Hawking will be returning this season and has a connection with another Lostie not named Desmond. Of course many of you have speculated at the potential options. Well he has now come back to say Hawking's connection is that she is "related" to this Lostie. My guess is Charlotte.

Ausiello also posted some casting info which we already have posted and confirmed that Lance Reddick was filming an episode this past week (most likely Episode 5x06).

My Lost mole reports that Lance Reddick (a.k.a. corporate recruiter Matthew Abaddon as well as Fringe's Phillip Broyles) was just spotted in Hawaii shooting what I assume is episode 5.6. Meanwhile, the show is casting the likely recurring role of Hal, a white dude in his 70s who can still fight the establishment and win. Team Darlton is also on the prowl for an actor to play Mike, a thirtysomething scientist who's on the brink of something big. An authentic Czech accent is required. (Of course, when isn't it?)
