How will Lost end? - Matthew Fox Interview

Thanks to Tom and GreekCharmed for the following.
Matthew Fox has one of those superfirm handshakes that catches you off-guard and makes you wish you'd caught his hand with just that bit more force. Fox is every inch the sort of intense, super- focused Hollywood player you'd expect Dr Jack Shephard (the character from the epic TV show Lost he has spent the last six years playing) to be if he was an actor.
From the very first episode, Jack is at the heart of the show. It's through his eyes that we first find out where we are, as he wakes up, stumbles out of the jungle, and into the middle of a plane crash on a beach littered with bodies and the burning remnants of Oceanic Flight 815. He's the instant leader, the hunky doctor whose medical instincts kick in, framing him as the classic reluctant hero. Not the sort of character you'd expect to wind up a few years later as a junkie with a serious deathwish. Will his heroic nature return as we approach the sixth and final season?
"When Damon [Lindelof, co-creator and executive producer of Lost] and I started talking about Jack in the pilot, neither of us was interested in having him play the knight in shining armour," explains Fox. "I think the audience would have been bored to death. But what we wanted to do was set him up that way, have the audience believe he was going to be that way, and have the people on the island look to him for that kind of leadership – then completely destroy him."
Fox is obviously invested in the character and the show, and is the only cast member who has been told by the producers what the final image of the whole show is going to be – although when pressed, he won't be any more specific than "It's going to be really beautiful and powerful, and I can't wait to see how we end up there". Either he is very tight with the execs, or maybe he is going to be the last person we see, closing the series that he opened.
As you would imagine, Fox is happy to talk about character arcs, plot developments and the overall thematic meaning of Lost – but when it comes to answering those burning questions the series has raised, he is more elusive.
Do you know what the temple is? "No."
Do you know about the smoke monster? "Er, yeah."
Can you say anything about it? "Er, no."
Did they really need to be down in the hatch pushing the button? [Long pause] "Yes."
Do you know what the numbers mean? "No."
Will we find out how Jack's dad is connected to the island? "I do anticipate some resolution in that."
Do you know who the Others are and what they were doing on the island in the first place? "I don't know the answer to that one, but I'm sure we will. I haven't been informed."
There's a cheeky grin on his face as he runs through this. Fox admits that "knowing stuff that the audience want to know . . . it's a quite a power trip, to be completely honest with you. But the truth is that nobody really wants to know. If you're reading a really good book – I don't know too many people who want to turn to the final page and find out how it ends."
Lost is the perfect show for the internet – packed with enough teasing plot twists, game-changing cliffhangers and bright red herrings (come on, what was that shark with the Dharma logo about?) to keep a world of bloggers and messageboards poring over every move the Dharma Initiative makes. This level of rabid attention is also a major problem for the production team – how do you write a TV show that is based on secrets and revelations in the age of the spoiler; when there are thousands of fan sites desperate to leak, theorise or suggest where the story might go next?
"There are certain scenes that are never published in scripts," Fox explains. "Every year, near the end, there are scenes that are omitted and the only people who ever know what's involved in that scene are the actors and a skeleton crew. We've had a leak – they're probably sitting in Guantánamo Bay right now," he deadpans.

Set report
Update: 20:55 It looks like Benjamin now thinks that the logo maybe just a generic Dharma one.
Thanks to Benjamin for the following. Benjamin is hoping to maybe get a better photo of the new Logo and a description of it.
I'm Benjamin, Claudio's friend.
I am in the team of the blog "http://lost-spoiler.over-blog.com" and of the forum "http://lost.forumsactifs.com". Richieleb of our forum takes to us of Hawaii of the reports of exclusive filming. There are 3 photos with this set report.
Sorry for my English but I am French ! lol !
Here is the rest :
"Hi all, how lucky I was to have spent time with the production team to see Hurley, Jack and director Jack Bender to three feet, and staying a little longer in the rain, I think I saw that Claire, as on one of the photos I took (I had not noticed) by the larger team blog, we see his name appears with that of Jack. Jack is left for 15 hours, and if you go on the blog to see the pictures, the picture where we see two tents covered, and well into 15 hours, he stood there a dozen technicians and a big vision-pana rail close to film a scene from the little camp, I'd be Claire who attended the scene, security told me to go away because the scene had too many new things. One of the scripts that came to see a technician special effects, talking about fire. If you looked at the photo of the camp left one can see a kind of book with a Dharma logo.
On October 21 around 13:30 am if returned, the team was filming in a protected area for two or three hours I saw no one. I took other pictures, the camp had changed his appearance. A new sign dharma down, and one can see inside the shelter. It has pictures of trail or Jack and Hurley were filmed. Jack Bender with the cameraman who kept a small Panamanian hands vision, micro understood, and Hurley and Jack stood in the place where we see a large rock in the middle of the trail. It was difficult to see because at 10 feet there was a small tent with two women who had their film scenes. And I was standing behind with two technicians and one that blocked the path to other foreigners (those who visited the park) while they were filming. I think they took the views in both directions. Hurley and Jack wandered down. The other photos are those filmed the trail, a place especially with large trees should be easy to recognize in episode six that technicians confirmed to me. For an hour or more technicians who attends the scene, were brought from the ends of branches with leaves to hide the iron bars that you see on the edge of the trail.
On October 19 I had been at base camp original (very safe and this one-hour walk on the beach, because everything is private between the road and the beach) the camp is very messed up, the church is always present and there is a hole near for a body in the small cemetery. I have pictures I would put maybe somewhere else. If nothing else I come back to mind. I will share with you. The location of Paradise Park is beautiful, a beautiful jungle stream (they often go through) and very large and strange trees. The next season will be terrible. Thank you"

Season 6 Filming Update - Latest Snippets
Hey All,
I know many of you are curious what is happening with the current filming for Season 6 and of course with security at an extra high level unfortunately it has been difficult to get any details.
As posted with earlier reports, it seems like the cast and crew are working deep in the jungle and it has been tough for fans to get close enough for any sort of glimpse of the set. However, we have received a few tidbits from various sources.
Here you go:
1) Set apparently being used is a big ditch with some sort of "hatch"
2) "Shiny" new Dharma van was spotted close by
3) Several of the cast from the potential hatch explosion scenes have been spotted around
My guess is that it really seems we will get a continuation of what happened at the Swan Hatch during the 77 timeline, but who knows. It could be anything? Especially when or where??
So what do you all think?
NOTE: We hope to have some more details and perhaps some pictures soon, so keep checking back for updates.

Dharma in Season 6
Thanks to Congested for this article.
Here's an article about the use of The University of Michigan's name in various Hollywood productions and there is a little piece at the end about its use on Lost. The full article can be found here.
...Another critical hit, Lost, wraps up its season with a two-hour show on Wednesday. But unlike House,Lost decided to go ahead with its Michigan connection without any input from the school — a move that at first was a tad unsettling for Doyle, the film office chief.
She found out about it while watching the show.
"I was sitting in the living room with my husband and said 'Oh my goodness!' I won't quote exactly what I said. (It was) more colorful than that," she said, laughing.
The university talked about it, but opted against reaching out to the Lost producers to discuss the use of the name.
"We decided to let it ride," Doyle said. "As time goes on, it's more apparent they're (the Dharma Initiative) not horrible people."
But, much like the show itself, they're plenty mysterious.
According to an "orientation film" played during a past Lost episode, Dharma is described as being the brainchild of the DeGroots, who "imagined a large-scale communal research compound where scientists and freethinkers from around the globe could pursue research in meteorology, psychology, parapsychology" and other disciplines.
During this season, viewers finally are getting a better idea of how Dharma-types lived and worked on the island setting of the show, which through its time-travel trippiness sent its main characters 30 years into the past.
With Dharma at the forefront of the current season, the Michigan references have been coming at a greater frequency, with a Dharma resident in a recent episode threatening to "call Ann Arbor" to settle a dispute.
Lost executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof stress that the decision to base the Dharma folks at a 1970s-era U of M should be viewed as a compliment. After all, Cuse said, they chose the school because of its reputation as "a real center of intellectuality."
"There was an incredibly vital university academic community, and we just felt like acknowledging that by making the characters from there was just kind of cool and very sort of appropriate for the time," he said.
Cuse and Lindelof say to expect the Dharma-Michigan connection to play a significant role as the show heads into next season, its sixth and final one.

Marshall in New Hampshire: On Lost, any scoop on Sawyer in the 1970s?
I'm hearing that he and Jin will be in that fabulously groovy decade for three whole years and that...wait for it...Jin might speak far better English now! Hooray for more Daniel Dae Kim screen time and multisyllabic words!
Isaiah in Little Rock, Ark.: On Lost, are we ever going to see Richard Alpert in a scene with Mrs. Hawking? I feel like those two are Island gods who must know each other.
When we recently spoke to Fionnula Flanagan, she told us that she hasn't had any scenes yet with Nestor Carbonell, but, "Perhaps I have in some previous existence, or in some previous materialization of Mrs. Hawking, but it hasn't come to light yet." You'll note that doesn't rule out encounters between young Ellie (if that is Mrs. Hawking in an earlier life) and Richard Alpert in the past.

Hey All,
Yesterday we posted several set photos and a report about filming that took place earlier this week in Othersville with Jack, Kate and Faraday being involved in a shootout with Radzinsky and Dharma.
The set video below was sent into us today of the filming. In the video you will be able to hear the gun fight with several rounds being shot and it ends with the explosion. The filming takes place behind the crew tents, so if you focus on that area, then you might catch a very small glimpse of the blue Dharma vehicle speed off!!
If you missed the report or pics, then you can view all the details at the following links:

Hey All,
After a quite week of filming, we received a tip that there was a big shoot planned at Camp Erdman today. Our good friend Roxy was on set to catch all the action and several other fans sent in tidbits to our other good friend and LOST blogger Ryan!!
Here is a little summary of what took place along with some nice set pics.
Apparently the filming mainly took place at the mechanic's area of Othersville. Jack (Matthew Fox), Kate (Evangeline Lilly), Faraday (Jeremy Davies) and Radzinsky (Eric Lange) were the notable actors/characters on set with several other new Dharma members (Casey, Emer and more).
Roxy spotted several stunt doubles and the actors trailers with one specifically for "Radzinsky", "Thug 1", and "Thug 2". You will see Radzinsky with both thugs in black Dharma Jumpsuits in the photos below. If you look carefully you will also notice a SWAN logo on Radzinsky's jumpsuit!!
In another photo, you will find a scene being filmed with Jack, Faraday, and Radzinsky. Both Jack and Radzinsky are pointing guns at one another but it is hard to see Jack or Faraday as they are behind a Blue Dharma van near a Dharma Soda cooler!
ROXY'S SET REPORT:
Summary of Filming 2/17/09 - Episode 5x14 The Variable
Names on actor/personnel trailers: Radinsky, thug 1, thug 2, Jack, Kate, Faraday and Paul Edwards
Scene: Takes place in mechanic's area on the island.
Jack, Kate and Faraday (wearing khaki dharma jumpsuits) exchange gunfire with "other" dharma personnel (wearing black jumpsuits). Jack, Kate and Faraday jump into a Jeep and escape just as an explosion occurs.
Ryan's post mentions some debris from a blown-up house (maybe Claire's) and also has some additional photos of some Dharma Jeeps that you can check here: Hawaii Blog
NOTE: We will be uploading a few more images soon so keep checking back for more.
