Don’t give anything specific away, but is this week’s ‘Lost’ a spectacular episode with lots of questions answered, or is it just so-so? – Steven via Facebook
Spectacular is a strong word (and one typically associated with Teri Hatcher’s… comedy chops), but yeah, ‘What They Died For” is very solid. Among other things, it features, like, the best campfire story ever, a reveal about someone we thought wasn’t a candidate, and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ finale-levels of bloodshed. There’s also a significant development regarding Jacob’s successor.

Will we see Rose and Bernard one more time before ‘Lost’ ends? – James
Yes, in Sunday’s series finale. And when the marrieds resurface, they’re still wielding a “Don’t harsh my mellow” ‘tude as their idyllic existence is rudely intruded upon (and then some). L. Scott Caldwell, who plays Rose, told me she herself isn’t fond of Rose’s lack of hospitality, seeing as the fans had come to regard the character as “quite peaceful.” So in her mind, R&B “were probably eating wild mushrooms or something else that changed their attitude!”

So, Juliet/Sawyer – happily ever after? Yes? – Ryan
Interpret Josh Holloway’s assessment of Sunday’s two-and-a-half hour series finale as you wish: “[It's] un-freakin’-believable… Everything I hoped it would do, it did.”

New Elizabeth Mitchell Interview

Here is a cool interview by our good friend Jopinionated who recently visited the set of V and spoke with Elizabeth Mitchell.

Thanks to Jopinionated for this interview that has some minor spoilers.

Latest from Ausiello - 3rd March 2010

Thanks to John for the heads up.

Question: Since I got you some scoop, how about some Lost scoop in return? —Antonio
Ausiello: Thanks for keeping me plugged-in, Antonio. Here’s your Lost scoop: If you’re expecting the Sawyer/Kate/Jack triangle to move front and center during these final 10 episodes, it may be time to start managing those expectations. “We’re moving into the endgame of the show [and] the stakes have moved beyond, ‘Who’s Kate going to pick?’ and into, ‘Is anyone going to be left alive?,’ says executive producer Damon Lindelof. “I hope [viewers are] going to be satisfied with what we’re doing, but we’re not writing a romance novel here. I understand in seasons past how that was much more relevant. We’re not neglecting it, but there’s a lot of fish to fry. The elements of the love triangle — Kate’s relationship with Jack, her relationship with Sawyer, Sawyer’s relationship with Juliet, who’s dead — are a huge part of the season. All that stuff is in play.”

Question: Will we find out why Richard doesn’t age on Lost? —Julie
Ausiello: Yes. The big reveal occurs in the March 23 Richard-centric episode. And if you think you know the answer, think again. “I definitely had a number of theories about why he doesn’t age and I was dead wrong,” confesses Nestor Carbonell, who adds that the episode is unconventional in that “the ‘A’ story focuses on the origins of this character. There’s a little bit of stuff on the island, but not much. It [mostly] deals with the past.”

Latest from TV Guide - Elizabeth Mitchell Interview

Thanks to Carry for the heads up.

Poor Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell). As if falling into the Swan hatch and exploding the bomb wasn't enough of a sendoff at the close of Lost's Season 5, she died in the final season opener in Sawyer's arms — after a final kiss and a mysterious message. While fans are still mourning the loss of Dr. Burke, TVGuide.com jumped on the phone with Mitchell, who's shooting ABC's alien-invasion drama V in Vancouver. The 39-year-old actress says that Juliet may be dead, but Mitchell is returning to Hawaii soon as the show winds down. So who was Juliet asking to coffee? What does "it worked" mean?

TVGuide.com: It felt like we watched you die twice and it was harder the second time around. Was it even more of a heartbreaking moment for you playing that with Josh Holloway?
Mitchell: [Laughs] I'm so sorry about that. You basically just watched me die again. That's exhausting. I guess it was bittersweet. I was so happy to be there because I didn't think I was coming back at all. I was grateful. I enjoy V so much, so it felt like icing on the cake. I like Josh so much. We came full circle together in so many ways, so for us, it was just a joy to be together. I enjoy him so much, he has a new baby, he's full of love, laughter and excitement. The playing of it was fun and the hanging out with him was fun. He just plays guitar and we sang and had a good time. I would work with him anywhere.

TVGuide.com: We hear you will be returning again. When will we see that?
Mitchell: Yes, I will. I wish I could tell you. I don't think I'm allowed to, but I shoot it pretty soon, so I don't know when it will be, but it is going to happen. They're trying to work out the dates right now.

TVGuide.com: With whom will you have scenes?
Mitchell: I wish I knew. I actually really don't know that. You know those last lines she had in the premiere, where she said, "We can go dutch," she was obviously talking to somebody. I just don't know who she was talking to, so I feel like it will be really interesting to find out who and what situation that's in. Maybe that's what they're going to do.

TVGuide.com: Fans like to think she was asking Sawyer to coffee and maybe we'll see them together in the finale.
Mitchell: You know, that's what I think in my head and I certainly hope that's what it is. As a matter of fact, they told me when I come back that we'll see her and then they told me a situation and what my emotional temperature would be, but they wouldn't say anything about who with. [Evangeline Lilly] and I keep hoping that it's going to be Kate and Juliet together; the two of them having coffee, hanging out, talking about everything. [Laughs]

TVGuide.com: Who would you like to see Juliet end up with: Jack, Sawyer or neither?
Mitchell: It's really hard to say because I always felt like Kate and Sawyer had the most amazing chemistry. As it's gone on, I feel like Kate and Jack are having this wonderful chemistry. Given that everything is split all over the place, maybe Juliet gets one or the other in one of the times. I actually felt like she was the most peaceful with Sawyer, so I would love to see her peaceful. She was so happy. She loved him so much. I love [Matthew Fox], but I think it could be James at this point in time, which is a complete turnaround from where I was before.

TVGuide.com: They do have the alternate story line. Might we see her off the island?
Mitchell: Exactly. I don't know. That's my assumption. I'm assuming that we will. I know I will get the script soon, which will be very hard to get away from my husband because it will have all kinds of answers.

TVGuide.com: Is it the finale that you're coming back for?
Mitchell: It might be. It will be towards the end. They are in their last bit of shooting, so it will be near the end somewhere, but I don't know where.

TVGuide.com: Through Miles (Ken Leung), Juliet conveyed that "It worked." Is she talking about the alternate universe?
Mitchell: How cool was that?! That's what I thought, that's exactly what I thought. You know how devious and genius the producers are. It could be anything. We can think we have it completely sewn up and they just turn us on our ears; that's what they do.

What ending would you like to see for Juliet?

Latest from DocJensen - Damon and Carlton Answers

Thanks to Mazin and NoOne and everyone else for the heads up.

EW: The whole idea of flash-sideways and the plan to use season 6 to show us a world where Oceanic 815 never crashed — how long has that been in the works? Why did you want to do it?
DAMON LINDELOF: It’s been in play for at least a couple of years. We knew that the ending of the time travel season was going to be an attempt to reboot. And as a result, we [knew] the audience was going to come out of the “do-over moment” thinking we were either going start over or just say it didn’t work and continue on. [We thought] wouldn’t it be great if we did both? That was the origin of the story.
CARLTON CUSE: We thought just doing one [of those options] would inherently not be satisfying. Since the very beginning of the show, characters started crossing through each other’s stories. Part of our desire [in season 6] is to show that there’s still this kind of weave, that these characters still would have impacted each other’s lives even without the event of crashing on the Island. Obviously, the big question of the season is going to be: How do these [two timelines] reconcile? However, for the fans who have not watched the show closely, that’s an intact narrative. You can just watch the flash sideways — they stand alone all by themselves. For the fans who are more deeply embedded in the show, you can watch those flash sideways, compare them to what transpired in the flashbacks and go, “Oh, that’s an interesting difference.”
LINDELOF: Right out of the gate, in the first five minutes of the premiere, you get hit over the head with two things that you’re not expecting. The first is that Desmond is on the plane. The second thing that we do is we drop out of the plane and we go below the water and we see that the Island is submerged. What we’re trying to do there is basically say to you, “God bless the survivors of Oceanic 815, because they’re so self-centered, they thought the only effect [of detonating the bomb] was going to be that their plane never crashes.” But they don’t stop to think, “If we do this in 1977, what else is going to affected by this?” So that their entire lives can be changed radically. In fact, it would appear that they’ve sunken the Island. That’s our way of saying, “Keep your eyes peeled for the differences that you’re not expecting.” Some of these characters were still in Australia, but some weren’t. Shannon’s not there. Boone actually says that he tried to get her back. There are all sorts of other people that we don’t see. Where’s Libby? Where’s Ana Lucia? Where’s Eko? These are all the things that you’re supposed to be thinking about. When our characters posited the “What if?” scenario, they neglected to think about what the other effects of potentially changing time might be and we’re embracing those things.

That said, are you saying definitively that detonating Jughead was the event that created this new timeline? Or is that a mystery which the season 6 story will reveal?

LINDELOF: It’s a mystery. A big one.
CUSE: We did have some concern that it might be confusing kind of going into the season. To clear that up a little bit: The archetypes of the characters are the same and that’s the most significant thing. Kate is still a fugitive. If you were to look at the Comic-Con video, for instance, that now comes into play. There was a different scenario in that story. She basically blew up an apprentice plumber as opposed to killing her biological father/stepfather. Those kind of differences exist, but who the characters fundamentally are is the same. If it becomes too confusing for you, you can just follow the flash sideways for what they are. It’s not as though there’s narrative that hangs on the fact that you need to know that this event was different in that world, in the flashback world versus the sideways world. That’s not critical for being able to process the narrative this season.

Is there a relationship between Island reality and sideways reality? Will they run parallel for the remainder of the season? Will they fuse together? Might one fade away?

LINDELOF: For us, the big risk that we’re taking in the final season of the show is basically this very question. [Lindelof then explains the show has replaced the trademark “whoosh!” sound effect marking the segue between Island present story and flashbacks or flash-forwards, thus calling conspicuous attention to the relationship between the Island world and the Sideways world.] This is the critical mystery of the season, which is, “What is the relationship between these two shows?” And we don’t use the phrase “alternate reality,” because to call one of them an “alternate reality” is to infer that one of them isn’t real, or one of them is real and the other is the alternate to being real.
CUSE: But the questions you’re asking are exactly the right questions. What are we to make of the fact that they’re showing us two different timelines? Are they going to resolve? Are they going to connect? Are they going to co-exist in parallel fashion? Are they going to cross? Do they intersect? Does one prove to be viable and the other one not? I think those are all the kind of speculations that are the right speculations to be having at this point in the season.

LINDELOF: But it is going to require patience. We’ve taught the audience how to be patient thus far, so while they’re getting a lot of mythological answers on the island early in the season, this idea of what is the relationship between the two [worlds] is a little bit more of a slow burn.

Did Jughead really sink the Island? And is it possible that the Sideways characters are now caught in a time loop in which they might have to go back in time and fulfill the obligation to continuity by detonating the bomb?

LINDELOF: These questions will be dealt with on the show. Should you infer that the detonation of Jughead is what sunk the island? Who knows? But there’s the Foot. What do you get when you see that shot? It looks like New Otherton got built. These little clues [might help you] extrapolate when the Island may have sunk. Start to think about it. A couple of episodes down the road, some of the characters might even discuss it. We will say this: season 6 is not about time travel. It’s about the implications, the aftermath, and the causality of trying to change the past. But the idea of continuing to do paradoxical storytelling is not what we’re interested in this year.

Do you ever get that feeling in the pit of your stomach that's basically a red alarm warning you not to do something?

Well, that's precisely the feeling I'm (stupidly?) ignoring right now as I cave in and give you highly vocal "Skaters," "Jaters" and "Sulieters" what you've been asking--no, begging--for since our 12 Days of Lost-mas began: Some sort of info as to where Lost's romantic storylines may be heading in the upcoming season.

So why is the red alarm going off? 'Cause this is highly volatile subject matter, people!

But you asked, so here we go. Don't shoot the messenger...

Six of these things are true:

Juliet survives the bomb.
Juliet does not survive the bomb.
Kate and Sawyer flirt.
Kate and Sawyer kiss.
Juliet and Sawyer kiss.
Jack and Sayid touch lips.
There is a scene with Sawyer in the season premiere that will make you cry buckets--assuming you aren't a robot--and (possibly?) make you Skaters happy.

Which one is false?

Season 6 Holdout Confirmed and Latest About Sawyer

Here are the latest details from E! Online's Kristin who confirms a couple of things that we already knew but here you go:

Maggie Grace's (Shannon) absence from the beginning of the new season will be explained by a significant change to Shannon and Boone's (Ian Somerhalder) backstory.

Sawyer (Josh Holloway) will smooch someone who is either Kate (Evangeline Lilly) or Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell), and it will happen within the first four hours of the new season.

(Reminder: Maggie was the Lostie I referred to earlier in a blind item as a "holdout," who was busy shooting back-to-back movies when she was first offered a return to Lost. She may appear later in the season.)

Latest Spoilers from Kristin

JasonBuskin via Twitter: Lost premiere is Groundhog Day. Coincidence?
Nope! I'm told it was fully intentional. Not so much by Lost's producers but by the higher-ups (Steve McPherson) at ABC. Pretty awesome, right?

Annie B.: I don't care about alt Lost where Sawyer and Kate apparently do cross paths. Do you have any info about Sawyer/Kate on the Island, or are they doomed in the present time line (with Suliet and Jate still going strong)?
I know Team Darlton referred to "killing off" Juliet in their latest interview with People, but you've probably figured out by now that we'll see her alive somehow, which my source confirms. Hence, her guest spots in a few episodes on the sixth season.

Darrell in New Jersey: It's almost December already! Lost, please!
Honestly, guys, I'm so freaking confused right now because my rock-solid source is telling me two things that seem to contradict each other. I know most of you have heard about the "alt Lost" this season (see question above), and so have I. But I'm also told that the thing that I'm pretty sure needs to happen for "alt Lost" to happen does not happen. So until I know more (hopefully soon), I'm keeping my mouth shut and sending a magical little Pac-Man head to come and eat all the words I just wrote. Go, Pac-Man, go! Quick! In the meantime, if you have any good theories, post 'em below, will ya?

New Elizabeth Mitchell Interview on Jimmy Kimmel

There are some minor spoilers about Juliet's return in Season 6.

NOTE: There are two parts and the second clip has no spoilers

Damon Talks About Kate and Juliet for Season 6

Hey All,
LOST writer Damon Lindelof recently did an interview where he answered a question about "badass" Kate and Juliet and said if we like those two characters that way then we will like season 6.

Not sure now if he was saying we will see more badass Kate and Juliet or that we will see those type of characters in general in Season 6.

Thanks to Matt for the details and the audio:

On a show called GEEK TIME hosted by Jon Hein(Jump the Shark author), on HOWARD101 on SIRIUS RADIO, Jon asked Damon Lindleoff about Kate and Juliet not being as "hard" or "badass" as they used to be, Damon said "If you like those two characters as badass, then you'll probably like the last season of the show." I don't know if that's worthy of news. I think it aired Aug. 17 but I'm not sure

Damon Lindelof Reveals Some Tidbits

Here are some tidbits thanks to The Donkey Wheel from Damon Lindelof's appearance at a comic book shop in Sherman Oaks today.

Damon L. had a book signing tonight and he stated that when season one ended a woman asked him what is in the hatch. He signed something of hers and also wrote there is a man in the hatch that has to push a button every 108 min to save the world. She didn't believe what he wrote and laughed. This brings me to the things I saw he wrote today.

First he stated the Swan Hatch Paiting was "painted by Desmond to pass the time, but time came around to bite him in the ass"

Second he wrote "Sawyers true love will ALWAYS be Juliet. Kate, Meh."

Third "Why, Oh Why is it called the 'Swan'... literature, (name), literature"

Last "Faraday had the right idea but the wrong execution"

Latest from TV Guide

Thanks to Carry and David for the heads up.

Recent Emmy winner Michael Emerson — just one the Losties who talked to us recently about the show's sixth and final season — promises it will resolve some but not all of fans' questions.

"I don't know if they'll be fully satisfied or not," Emerson says. "I don't know if we want to be fully satisfied. I think it's always best to go away wanting a little more."

You can forgive Emerson for being as enigmatic as his character, Ben Linus. But in interviews with TVGuide.com, his castmates (including Jorge Garcia, Daniel Dae Kim, and Terry O'Quinn) did clarify three things that have nagged us since the fifth-season finale in May:

1. Yes, the bomb exploded. "Basically a bomb went off at the end of the last one and all bets are off," Garcia said. Adds Kim: "At the end of last season there was a big explosion." Of course, neither of them guaranteed that the bomb was Jughead, but we'll just assume it was to keep our heads from spinning.

2. We haven't seen the last of Juliet. A well-placed source tells us Elizabeth Mitchell, who plays the tragic doctor, just flew back from shooting in Hawaii and that she may return there to shoot again.

3. But we probably have seen the last of Libby. "It looks like we're probably not going to see Libby," Garcia says. "They'll probably deal with the story, but [actress Cynthia Watros, who plays Libby] may not be joining us."

Of course, the world of Lost is full of few constants and many variables. But whatever the writers have planned is worthy of the show's past secrets and reveals, O'Quinn promises: "When I read the first script, it's the first time in the whole series that I said, 'Wow, that's amazing,'" he said.

What Lost mysteries do you most want to see resolved when Season 6 begins in 2010?

Another Season 6 Filming Report and Spoilers

Hey All,
We finally have some details from that "secret hatch" set filming.

Here is the report:

Looks like things pick up immediately after Juliet hits the bomb because the construction site looks like the Swan after it got sucked in. Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Miles, Jin were there. Saw Sawyer upset over Juliet's actions and runs toward the hole which is now stuffed with all the metal from the site. Also saw them and some stunt doubles clumb out of the hole using vines/rope.

Didn't see them filming, but saw Hurley and Sayid around set. Sayid's Dharma uniform was covered in a lot of blood so it looks like he's still hurt from last season.

Very cool to see :)

Mr. Eko wants to stage his comeback

Thanks to Shane for the heads up.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, aka former tailie Mr. Eko, has a message for Lost executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse: “Fans of Eko should have hope.” Though Akinnuoye-Agbaje was the first castaway to vote himself off the island in season three, the British actor hopes to be one of the dead characters who makes a comeback in the drama’s final season. “I loved playing that character,” he told EW at the premiere of G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra, in which he plays Heavy Duty. “I loved working with that team and the reception I got from people was phenomenal. Even at Comic-Con this year I went to sign my action figure for G.I. Joe and people had tons of questions about Lost. It makes you feel good that you could be off a show for more than a year and still have people thinking about your character. It was a great part.

“I’m here for them,” Akinnuoye-Agbaje continues. “Adewale is open for business. We have had talks about some things they might do for the final season and there are other dead folks coming back allegedly but at the moment it is still a maybe. A strong maybe but I have not shot anything yet or signed any contracts. But I’m hoping.”

The executive producers declined to comment but they did tell attendees at Comic-Con last month that the show will allow for dead or presumed-dead characters to return. Definites include Daniel Faraday (Jeremy Davies), Claire (Emilie de Ravin), Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) and Boone (Ian Somerhalder). What do you think? Should Mr. Eko be among the dearly departed who’s allowed to stage a comeback?
