LOST Episode 4x01 Spoilers Revealed in Article

A Canadian article claiming to have no LOST spoilers actually contains a few major ones including the opening sequence to the Season 4 Premiere.

Thanks to Sawyer840 for the heads up.

NEW YORK - Are the island castaways of "Lost" mere hours from rescue? Or will their latest chance at freedom turn to dust, like all the others?

That's a no-brainer. The title of the ABC series isn't "Found." And as the long-awaited new season of "Lost" begins Thursday (9 p.m. EST on CTV), the first episode strongly suggests the castaways are about to lose again.

They're awaiting help from a rescue party from a freighter anchored offshore. But as they wait, the chilling likelihood takes hold that their potential saviors could instead spell their doom.

There are no shockers in the episode, the first of eight in the series' truncated fourth season. But this is a gripping hour involving all the principal characters that sets the stage for the season ahead. And after eight long months' absence, it's a welcome sight. (Relax: No spoilers ahead.)

From last season's finale, we already know that rock star Charlie (played by Dominic Monaghan) made a perilous quest to disable a jamming device that had prevented the group from summoning help from a just-acquired satellite telephone. He died carrying out his mission, but not before relaying a warning to his comrades to beware of the so-called freighter people.

The next step in the rescue plan was for the group to make a trek to the radio tower and shut off a tape-loop rescue plea that also was interfering with any other transmissions.

There Ben (Michael Emerson), the less-than-trustworthy overlord of the Others, implored Jack (Matthew Fox), the survivors' reluctant leader, not to place the call to the freighter people.

Jack sneered at Ben's words. The call was made and the new episode begins, much as last season's finale did, with Jack somewhere in the future - drinking. With this recently added flash-forward storytelling feature, Jack is seen in his Los Angeles kitchen mixing a morning cocktail when his eye falls on TV coverage of police in hot pursuit of a speeding motorist.

The car crashes and the driver is arrested. Jack realizes it's one of his fellow former castaways, who is haunted by the past and sees visions of the dead. Jack, who himself is plagued by substance abuse, unrequited love for Kate (Evangeline Lily), and other demons, pays this person a visit. There is mention of a dreaded secret they share.

In a scene back on the island (and back in time), the portly Hurley (Jorge Garcia) runs into Locke (Terry O'Quinn), who long ago had "gone native" and has no desire to ever leave the island.

"It's gonna be hard to talk (Jack) into thinking they're not coming here to rescue us," says Hurley, who, with Locke, shares Ben's alarm for what the freighter people might do.

"We're just gonna have to try our best," says Locke, "because if we can't talk him out of it, then Charlie died for nothing."

By the end of the hour, the castaways are split into two factions - those aligned with Ben and Locke who believe the freighter people represent a mortal threat and Jack's group, still holding out hope for rescue, even as they start to fear the worst.

Thursday's new episode will be preceded by "Lost: Past, Present & Future," a recap hour of the saga of the Oceanic flight 815 crash (8 p.m. EST). And Wednesday, last season's splendid two-hour finale will be repeated (9 p.m. EST on ABC) in "enhanced" form, with on-screen text containing commentary and clues.

In short, "Lost" fans should be rejoicing. And even with just eight episodes currently on tap thanks to the writers strike, ABC has promised another 40 will eventually follow, leading up to the series' finale in 2010

FEELING THAT THEIR RESCUE IS IMMINENT, THE SURVIVORS PONDER CHARLIE’S FINAL MESSAGE THAT THE PEOPLE CLAIMING TO LIBERATE THEM AREN’T WHO THEY SEEM TO BE, ON THE SEASON PREMIERE OF “LOST”

Awarded the 2005 Emmy and 2006 Golden Globe for Best Drama Series, “Lost” returns for its fourth season of action-packed mystery and adventure -- that will continue to bring out the very best and the very worst in the people who are lost -- THURSDAY, JANUARY 31 (9:00-10:02 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

After Oceanic Air flight 815 tore apart in mid-air and crashed on a Pacific island, its survivors were forced to find inner strength they never knew they had in order to survive. But they discovered that the island holds many secrets, including a mysterious smoke monster, polar bears, housing and hatches with electricity and hot & cold running water, a group of island residents known as “The Others” and a mysterious man named Jacob. The survivors have also found signs of those who came to the island before them, including a 19th century sailing ship called The Black Rock, the remains of an ancient statue, as well as bunkers belonging to the Dharma Initiative -- a group of scientific researchers who inhabited the island in the recent past.

In the season premiere episode, “The Beginning of the End,” feeling that their rescue is close at hand, the survivors don't know whether to believe Charlie’s final message that the people claiming to liberate them are not who they seem to be.

The band of friends, family, enemies and strangers must continue to work together against the cruel weather and harsh terrain if they want to stay alive. Riddick to Appear in First 2 Episodes of Season 4

Lance Reddick, one of the new cast members of LOST has confirmed that he has filmed scenes for the first two episodes of Season 4.

For those that kept up to speed with all the spoilers, will remember the set pics of Reddick in the Hurley Centric episode.

Here is a little tidbit from his interview with IGN:

IGN TV: Before I let you go, I'd be remiss if I didn't ask if you can say anything about your role on Lost?

Reddick: I don't know much about my role on Lost. [Laughs] I just know that it's a character of power. But I've only been in the first two episodes, and then they stopped shooting after episode 8 because of the strike. So we'll see.

Latest Spoilers From Kristin

Here are the Latest LOST Season 4 spoilers from Kristin at E! Online:

Lauren in Leyburn, North Yorkshire, England: I'm absolutely dying for any news about Jack and Kate on Lost! Will the "because I love you" be addressed?
Yes. More than once.

Kelynn in Baltimore, Maryland: I was hoping you might have some news on what's happening with Lost, specifically Jack and Juliet (my new fave Lost relationship!)
Zzzzzz...What?! Oh, sorry, I was just tracking Jack and Juliet's romantic progress in the first four eps of Lost. Must have fallen asleep there for a sec.

Gina in Italy: Can you confirm that the fourth season premiere of Lost is a Hurley episode?
Confirmed. And Hurley's flash-forward includes cameos by two regular characters (one living, one dead) and a flashback character from season two.

Thomas in Ventura, California: What can you tell me about Ben-Henry this season on Lost? Michael Emerson owns that show.
Yes, he often does. And I think it's fair to say that this season Ben reminds me a little of Boss Tweed or Don Corleone in his heyday. He's on the wrong side of the law, but he has rock-solid relationships with grand pooh-bas, with little people and with everyone in between, and as such, his influence extends to places you'd never imagine.

Emily in Emerald Isle, North Carolina: Any news on Lost? It's been 24 days and counting! I think the whole fandom's going insane from lack of spoilers. What's going on with our two favorite doctors? How about our two favorite convicts?
Honestly, everything I've heard so far is so fantastic and surprising, I'm reluctant to go there, but I'll throw you a few more bones to chew on:

(1) Trust in the words of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: "Don't panic."
(2) Shows like Lost, Damages, Battlestar Galactica, Mad Men and Dexter are grandmaster chess. The writers are Kasparov, and we are...not. In short, we're getting played (and it feels so good).
(3) Just because we're getting flash-forwards does not mean we learn now how it all turns out. Being at the "beginning of the end" means we're actually smack in the middle of the story. All the happily (n)ever afters for our Losties are not going to be revealed in this here second act of the story, so y'all just simmer down now! There's still plenty at stake.

Opening Scene of Season 4 Revealed

So the first scene of the Season 4 Premiere has been revealed by my good friend DarkUFO. He has known what the opening scene of Episode 4x01 will be for a little while now and has been holding a contest to see if anyone could guess what it is.

He started with several screencaps from the Season 4 Promos including some of the more discussed images such as Christian Shepard, Charlie and the Helicopter and slowly removed a couple of images every other day and he finally revealed that the opening scene of Season 4 is the pile of fruit that explodes. Only one person was able to guess the correct scenario.

Here are the details:

As some of you correctly predicated the image of the fruit will be the first image shown in Season 4. Only one person however guessed correctly. Congratulations to Adam for the following.

So we see this giant pile of fruit, right? And we think it's on the island, because why wouldn't there be a giant pile of fruit on the island? We hear a rumbling, maybe it's the helicopter, but no. There's a bang! and the fruit explodes. A car comes piling through the fruit. It's a car chase. WHAT?! A car chase on the island?!? No, it's a car chase, FROM THE FUTURE. Ok, it's a flash-forward, but yeah. We see the cops chasing a car and eventually the car spins out of control, crashing into a building or something. The cops tell the driver to get out of the car and it's... Hurley! Why the hell was he running? And he's alive! He made it off the island!
